The knowledge, understanding and skills you will gain in a range of practical skills‑based units in our industry-standard workshops, as you become a qualified carpenter or joiner, include: introduction to wood machinery and power tools; how to sharpen and use a range of hand tools; basic maintenance; exploring timber technology; timber floor and roofing techniques; modern truss roof construction; all aspects of kitchen fitting; building partition walls and fitting door linings; fixing mouldings; and fitting doors.

You will also take part in a work placement that will develop your employability skills and contacts in the industry. Our Joinery students have previously been involved in the Carlton Youth Centre project where they have helped reform the outdoor space to give something back to the local community.

Working on live projects such as this will help you to gain invaluable industry experience and develop your skills on the job.
